Mom, Here Are Ten Reasons Why I Love You

The Bean came home with a book by this title on Friday. It was one of those lovely things teachers have kids do for their moms. Well, considering I didn’t send my mom a Mother’s Day card (Ahem. THAT belongs in Confessions), I decided the least I could do was devote today’s post to her. So, here you go, Mom. Here are ten reasons why I love you:

I LOVE MY MOM BECAUSE... she has devoted her life to my dad, me, my brothers, and our families, and has always made us her first priority.

I LOVE MY MOM BECAUSE... she still cares about every detail of my life, and makes an effort to know what I’m up to, what I’m reading, how I’m feeling, how my writing is going, who my friends are, how my doctor's appointment went, and how the kids are doing.

I LOVE MY MOM WHEN SHE... drives 594.6 miles at the drop of a hat to come for a visit, or to help us out when we need it.

I LOVE MY MOM BECAUSE SHE TAUGHT ME... how to have a meaningful spiritual life.

I LOVE TO HEAR MY MOM SING... because it means we’re at Mass together (a rare treat).

I LOVE MY MOM BECAUSE SHE FINDS TIME TO... keep my freezer stocked with easy meals so that I don’t have to spend my energy cooking when I’m having a bad arthritis day.

I KNOW MY MOM CARES BECAUSE SHE... checks on me through Husband and my friend, M. (don’t worry, Mom, I don’t mind).

I KNOW MY MOM IS SMART BECAUSE SHE... aced all her Master’s classes and had a very successful career in early elementary education, all while raising a family.

I LOVE MY MOM BECAUSE SHE WORKS SO HARD AT...keeping her family relationships strong with all of us -- children, grandchildren, daughters- and son-in-law, eight brothers, one sister, sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews. She keeps us all connected.

I LOVE MY MOM BECAUSE SHE’S THE BEST MOM EVER!
(And, isn’t she beautiful?)

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. I am so grateful for you. I love you.
Love,
Molly

Thanks, Molly. You bring a tear to my eye often! Sometimes a tear of empathy, sometimes one of wonder and awe-but always one of love. It's easy to 'mother' a love like you.
